How do you celebrate a 50th anniversary? McIntosh Labs, an icon of prestige in the audio industry, celebrated theirs by releasing a limited edition MC275 power amplifier. This week at CES, McIntosh presented the MC275, some of their other top rated speakers, and other sweet-sounding products. Our Vann’s CES delegates had the opportunity to check them out, and they were impressed with what they heard.
The original MC275 amp debuted in 1961, and while the updated version still uses the same tried and true circuit design, it features several enhancements. A multicolored LED display signals the amp’s readiness and an advanced circuitry monitor automatically turns off the MC275 if any tube wears out. Also, on/ off operation can be easily controlled by any McIntosh preamp or processor.
Our CES delegates also liked the sound of McIntosh’s new XR50 bookshelf speaker. The depth of bass and rich audio quality is what would typically be expected of a much larger speaker. Overall, lots of excitement at CES 2012 around McIntosh’s new speakers and components.
