What’s all the buzz about ultrabooks? Incredibly lightweight and portable, they are getting a lot of attention at CES. Powerful as laptops and nearly as portable as tablets, ultrabooks offer convenient and impressive computing.
In order to compete with Apple’s MacBook Air, numerous companies at CES 2012 are entering the market with their own ultrabook models. This week Acer unveiled the Aspire S5; it has a 13.3” screen, yet weighs less than 3 pounds and is just over half an inch thick at its widest point. With a Thunderbolt port and powerful Intel Core processor, the Aspire is a work horse. Plus, it wakes up from sleep mode in 1.5 seconds (which you can do from your smartphone).
HP has introduced another notable ultrabook at CES: the Envy 14 Spectre, made from lightweight glass on its lid, screen, and palmrest. It also features the latest Intel Core processor and a 14” screen with high resolution and rich color. A tad heavier than the Aspire, it still weighs in at just under 4 pounds.
