2012 Grammys Honor Whitney Houston
The 54th annual Grammy Awards was a show filled with tributes, excitement, and a line-up of striking musical performances. Whitney Houston’s legacy propelled the night. Host LL Cool J began by saying, “There’s been a death in our family,” though there was celebration as well as mourning in the air.
Jennifer Hudson sang a powerful rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” which was recorded by Houston in 1992 for the Bodyguard soundtrack. The single topped the charts for 14 weeks, won numerous awards (including a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female), and is considered to by many to be Whitney Houston’s signature song.
Bruno Mars dedicated his performance at the Grammy’s to Houston. He said, “Tonight we are celebrating music. Tonight we are celebrating Whitney Houston.”
Rihanna also gave a shout out during her performance, saying, “Make some noise for Whitney!”
